Well, this is my 10th write-up about this person, and this is the first time I have explicitly mentioned his name (Mr 831). These are the two dates — 23rd Apr and 24th Dec — which I never miss. Or should I say I’m still not bored enough to take some contemplative walks down the memory maze, or my shoulders aren’t burdened with too many responsibilities that’s why I’m able to fit the ghost of this individual somewhere in my schedule? 2/365. Damn! That’s tough.

So what exactly comes to my mind when I think of this guy?

“Oh! Shubhankar used to listen to that artist a lot.”
“You know Shubhankar and I once had a conversation about structure in poetries.”
“You know one time Shubhankar asked us to play Tum Se Hi from Jab We Met and for some reason — “
Ah, Stupid shit. I don’t think any of this. Being too emotional about anything paves the way for a lackadaisical vision of life. And that’s what he believed in or pretended to believe in — cause he’s no more. But when he was, he was never bored. So add a few items to your to-do list. Reading books — a lot of books. Reading a lot even if you don’t find the stuff interesting. Just read. Study everything! Geography, history and politics. Even involve yourself in activities that would land you nowhere in life. Like? Listening to people. Being a good friend. Staying up late at night because someone wants to open up. Interact with every damn human; so in case someone needs you or if they are getting bored, they’ll call or catch up. But isn’t this the most basic advice? People will still get bored. Na na; you aren’t getting this! You have to be ferociously dedicated. If he were here, he would have argued that I should have used some other word instead of ferociously here. And I would’ve repudiated — though he was much smarter than me, but yeah Maine bhi kuch kam nahi padha hai.

Okay, so what else did you find admirable about him? Aah, you aren’t getting the point. Nothing’s admirable about him. Do you think I have written so much about him because I admire him? Na! What purpose do all these pieces serve? They don’t even fit in a puzzle. All of this is bullshit, but it’s better than death, and that’s exactly the art of not getting bored.
